What is a game jam?

Game Jam is an event where a group of people gather together and make a working game very fast in a given time table. Games are usually made according to a theme that is announced when the jam starts. The main goal of a game jam is to have fun, while working towards a common goal.

Who can participate?

Everyone! Yes, you are welcome to join, even if you don't have any skills whatsoever. As stated, the main goal is to hang around together and have fun.

Languages

While this wikipage is in english, you can also form a Finnish speaking team at the event.

Theme

This year's theme will be revealed later. You may create any kind of a game, but keep some connection to the theme in mind when you are creating it.

Where and when

Place

Campus chapel is located at Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 C 1. There is an (somewhat) accessible toilet, large fridge and small kitchen for use.

Accessibility

The campus chapel is somewhat accessible, the toilet is a bit small, and wheelchairs may not be able to turn around there. Also the route from Terrakoti to Chapel is not wheelchair accessible, and Terrakoti does not have a wheelchair accessible toilet.

Safe space

Terrakoti and Campus chapel are safe spaces, so don't be an idiot, don't use defamatory language and so on.

Sleeping accommodations

Due to fire regulations there are none, so you either need to go home to sleep, or find another place.

Jam Network

there will be a network of some sort. WLAN and / or LAN network. Connection to the internet will be shared with everyone, so please try not to download too much stuff. There are some programs preloaded to the server of the GameJamnetwork.

Wlan networks are Dreambay2400 for 2.4 GHz and Dreambay5000 for 5 GHz network. Both have the same password GameJam2026

We need to vacate the campus chapel at 22:00 so we can't build games through the night.

What to bring with you

There are some important items you will need to bring with you.

Noise canceling headphones

So you can focus, even if there is a lot of noise.

Food

There is a microwave oven, a regular oven and a fridge on premises. Please arrange the food orders on the discord channel.

Money

You can buy Cola and snacks from the TYRMÄ kiosk.

Computer and a network cable

Making a computer game is a lot easier if you have your own computer.

Coffee cup

There is a coffee maker, and some complimentary grounds. Tea bags also. There will be some disposable cups, but you can bring your own and save the planet!

Network drive

If your computer is in the Jam network (WLAN or LAN) you can access the network drive.

Username for network drive: friend Password for friend: melon

Windows

Network drive can be accessed with windows at [\\192.168.0.42]

Linux

To mount the drive mount -t cifs //192.168.0.42/share /gamejam_2026 --verbose -o user=friend

Games

Games created during the jam are submitted to the tyrma.net server where they can be downloaded. To submit a game, save it as a .zip or .lz file to the network drive.
